Local Explorer @harlowamanda
found this wonderful little family owned shop on a recent adventure.
The story of this shop is a T.V drama in the making!
Japanese traditional sweets in the countryside of Kuromatsunai. Tiny house-shop where a sweetmaker sells only 3 days a week. Often sold out by lunchtime. He moved from mainland Japan 8 years ago, for his family. . .and snowboarding!
Suzuya, Japanese sweets deep in the countryside of Kuromatsunai.
Telephone orders and local fans – he is often sold out by lunchtime.
Family welcome at Suzuya.
Seasonal specialities, September includes a sweet in the shape of a rabbit – as Japanese believe you can see a rabbit in the Harvest Moon.
This is a TV drama in the making…I can see it as a morning drama for housewives…young couple move north with their children – away from traditional Japan and a smart life …to backwoods Hokkaido….to make sweets.
Traditional sweets – lots of rice powder, red beans…very sweet!
